ASQ Virtual Special Issue on Organization Design

Recently, I had the privilege of curating ASQ’s new virtual special issue on organization design, along with my colleagues and co-authors John Eklund and Trevor Young-Hyman. To develop this special issue, we reviewed the last 30 years of organization design research published in ASQ and we featured 9 papers that reflect how research in organization design has evolved.

To celebrate the special issue, we hosted a webinar that featured presentations from the authors of the featured papers— Markus Becker, Kathleen Eisenhardt, Carol T. Kulik, Felipe Massa, Siobhan O'Mahony, Jen Rhymer, Sukhbir Sandhu, Sara Soderstrom, and Klaus Weber—as well as additional reflections on where the field is going from ASQ editors Beth Bechky, Fabrizio Ferraro, and Olenka Kacperczyk.

Attendees who shared their thoughts about future opportunities for org design research focused on three core areas: (1) AI, digital technologies, and new structural logics, (2) continuous design, interorganizational coordination, and hybrid workforces, and (3) societal challenges, inequality, and theoretical expansion.

You can watch the webinar here, and ASQ’s virtual special issue featuring articles authored by the webinar presenters is available here.
